Stay and Play Sessions

We work with local groups such as Islamic Cultural Centre to run weekly stay and play sessions for children aged 5-15 years old. The children and young people set guidelines for the session with the Project Support workers and the staff from the Islamic Cultural Centre. They have weekly discussions on the games and toys they would like to play with. The sessions help develop social skills, confidence and increase their self-esteem. The current evening sessions are so popular that the Iman has had to split the children/young people into two groups - each meeting fortnightly.

During the school holidays we have worked with Walking with in North Tyneside a local charity supporting Asylum Seekers to help run holiday clubs for the young people. We have loaned games and toys to groups set up to help families during the school holidays. The children play with the games and toys and they get provided with a breakfast and hot lunch while at the group. These facilities are very much needed in the region because a lot of families depend on the free meals provided by their child’s school.

During Child Safety Week in June each year we do safety talks with the children and young people. We have ran safety quizzes at Beaver/Cubs groups which are very interesting.

If you know of a group and you would like us to visit please contact the Project.
